Hello fellow North Bay residents. It has been brought to my attention that many people are asking about smoke/soot cleaning due to the recent fire activities in the area and whether or not this cleaning is covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy.
As a former insurance adjuster, I would recommend calling your agent or insurance company for clarification on how they are treating these fires (to consider as one event/deductible) and if they have limits associated with the cleaning. As most people know by now, the air quality in the North Bay has affected many residents due to not only the smoke/soot in the air, but also the contaminants from hazardous materials that burned.
These contaminants do settle on ledges, shelves, floors, pretty much anything that has a horizontal surface. Keep in mind that soot is HIGHLY acidic and can damage items within the home if not properly cleaned, especially soft metals (door knobs, metal picture frames, windows…etc).
As each case is different, feel free to call us for further information. We are now offering free inspections within the affected area. I hope this information helps. Stay safe out there and please let us know if there is anything we can do at this time.
